Visitors from many Commonwealth and most Western European Countries, as well as Japan and the USA do not require a visa. An entry permit (for 90 days) will be issued on arrival for free. These visitors only need a return-ticket and a passport that is valid for 6 months after the departure date.

If you intend to travel in South Africa longer then 3 months, professionally or for your study, you will need a visa. Travellers who require a visa should apply for their visa at least a couple of weeks before departure to South Africa.

When you intend to rent a car in South Africa, you will need an international drivers license.

Tip: make a scan of important documents such as your passport, credit card and drivers license and send these to a webmail-address such as hotmail, so you can access a copy of these documents when they stolen or lost.
