Bloemfontein

Bloemfontein is the provincial capital of Free State. J.R.R. Tolkien was born here in 1892.  The city is relatively safe, compared to other cities in South Africa. Visit the National Museum, Queens Fort, National War Museum or Freshford House Museum.

Basotho Cultural Village

Basotho Cultural Village is located in QwaQwa National Park. The village can only be visited through organized tours. You will get a lot of information on the traditional culture. You can also spend the night there. Information and bookings at basotho@dorea.co.za 

Golden Gate Highlands National Park

Beautiful sandstone cliffs, giving off a golden glow at the end of the afternoon, guard the west entrance of this park. There are no large carnivores here, so the park is very suitable for walking excursions. In the wintertime it can be quite cold, with snowfall and temperatures below zero.
