Hluhluwe-Umfolozi
Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park, covering 96,000 hectares, is renowned for its variety of bird and animal life. Some of the species that occur here are: elephant, lion, leopard, buffalo, rhino, cheetah, wild dog and nyala. The park was founded in 1897. Hluhluwe-Umfolozi is probably best known for its successful protection of the last white rhino’s in KwaZulu-Natal. About 3500 animals from Hluhluwe-Umfolozi have been relocated over the years to repopulate other parks in South Africa, Zambia, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
